RE: ON LINE HELP ON DEMAND:

ON LINE HELP ON DEMAND:

SYNERGY SCHOOLS are an on-line facility to get advice, help, support when and how you need it. While the Internet market will grow, most of the growth will be in business Intranets not the more public mass media applications because Internet is too hard for most people.

They can handle AOL but that's not where it's at.

The Internet is a new technology

unlike any that has come before.

The big difference is that it contains its own technology transfer and support system.

There needs to be programs for easy entry and educational and support for users.

As colleges open a lot of people wonder if I-phone will save on long distance.

They need a place to test the technology and get help.

People want and need a place to meet - test communications, form groups they feel secure with, rather than call strangers.

The old /talk/ with a timer set at about 30 sec. is great as a CLUB ROOM where people leave their IP # and the time to call. I don't like being called very much - I am usually doing something and it gets in the way. I will only do it until the groups take off on their own with people that WANT to be called, test technology, and actually communicate. If you don't know what a IP# means, or what is IRC, or FTP, etc. this is the place to learn.

The point is synergy, everyone wins.

The service will take shape around your needs and desires and from the dynamic effects of stable groups. Turn each other on ! Only thirty students at a time in class. Fifty dollars a month for private and group lessons for as long as you feel you need it. Private help available for most hours, quick responses. After gaining certain skills, and "learning to learn" we have or will have free web pages, help with http editors, continuous contact forums, chats, message board, e-mail, IRC, Net Meetings, ftp, newsgroup, listserver, real audio, and soon CuSeeMe for those that want to, and new systems as they come on line.

The class includes the $10.00 a month, THE SYNERGY CLUB charter membership, which than can go on forever at that rate as a charter member. RE:

The Way of the CLUB: Progress Report:

The system for learning about the web should be on the web - and needs to be a "learn to learn" style education. Any specific program or system has a half life of one year, human years in cyber-space have become dog years. Almost everything will be different in two years. You can't spend one year learning a program that will be gone in two years. Learning to learn means you learn how to figure systems out, and how to get help when you need it. When all else fails read the instructions.

What lawyers, and most professionals, do is learn how to use resources, libraries, and other information systems to understand how to make a specific case.

They learn a particular area of the law for one case, then move on.

They can't know "the law" but they know the context and the basics of "the system"

The Web business is by far the most important additional skill most people can use, need, or are required to have in the fastest growing job market. We will be able to collect credit card fees very soon, and look forward to having paying students.

The opening deal is $50.00 a month while the student need a lot of help. For this fee we solve problems for them. We will help them find and down load the software they need. We hold their hands as they write their first web page. We help them set up meeting, talk to others on the web, and provide a lot of personal assistance. In order to do this I am on line from 10 AM EDT ( GMT +4 = 14:00 ) until 2 PM ( GMT 18:00 ) with a chat channel open IRC /join #synergybunchbunch, the talk channel where I check in every hour, Net Meeting open and Cool talk as well. I post my address/phone # on talk and people can call me. I then walk them through what ever they need to do.

They have other programs running at the same time so I am there to answer questions on the spot. After they are far enough along ( it may only take a month ) they pay $10.00 club membership to join groups, keep up their web pages, find out what's new and interesting, and keep their skill up to date, with very limited personal assistance, but they can learn to help each other. It's quite a good deal, and we will raise, double and triple prices soon.

We are building a learning system for the Internet. We have the site in California, Turnpike, which has good traffic reports. It's a big collection of papers on education, small schools with the theme of learning and doing. I have a "beta" test group that are doing lessons, trying various systems, and we can see how it goes. Some students ( rather few ) have figured out the basics of handling the technology. This means they can move files around, leave messages, write in a format for the Internet ( hypertext pages ), and other skills needed just to manage the environment.

The second site,

, here in DeLand, that Kevin ( when he has time ) works on is also fully operational. When the directories to the Internet ( the card catalogs for Web pages ) registers the new site we intent to move our activities there. We have a message board and a very rough chat site. People can leave messages and if they arrange a time, talk (written notes ) on the web. We have been trying to get voice and chalk board ( white board ) working with a common meeting. Net meeting does work and I have talked ( voice on a microphone ) with people from Australia, Hong Kong, and Europe.

The white board can show slides, pictures, charts as well and typing and drawing. If we prepare a presentation, powerpoint, we can share with anyone hooked in, while talking about the demonstration.

Many people don't care about academic credit. We are still trying to find a college that will offer the program, collect the fees and pay us 60% to 80% or more for actually running the classes. When we have other people teaching other subjects we then split fees with them.

There are several colleges who appear to be interested. Many people, however, are happy with non-credit adult education.

The student work is on the site, people can refer employers to their web site and display what they can do.

The need for computer literacy involves millions around the world.

TODAYS MESSAGE: Thursday, August 22, 1996 10:07:29 AM will be removed and link to: RE: Time warps,

The good OLD Queen Mary:

Internet 101 is the instruction kit for the Internet.

Learning to learn on the Internet.

The Internet is and can be the greatest learning tool since the printing press. To take advantage of printing people had to learn to read. At the time, 15th century, 95% + of the population could not read.

They thought reading was hard and for the nerds of the church and state.

They were illiterate, including some priests, CEO's, Kings and Nobles. Being reading or computer illiterate is no joke. It excludes you from the future. Almost 50 % of Americans are functionally illiterate in reading a 9'th grade level manuals, the WSJ or NYT ( ask any HR department or the military ) and 90 % computer illiterate. Maybe that's why only 10% are now using Internet in any meaningful way. Usage is a lot higher in the literate countries of Europe and Asia. America: It won't do. PUBLIC EDUCATION IS HOPELESS, believe me, we need alternatives. Public education produces the Queen Mary, 50 years late.

The mass market for hardware, software, Internet providers, content, services all depends on mass education.

The industry should support our efforts to close the gap. Learning is a basic part of the SYNERGY of the Internet. PC Machines and chips companies need applications or people won't buy the hardware, on- line services need content, software companies need users with machines, customers are people with applications they want to use and some level of knowledge on how to make it all work. Industry support for general education ( not the specific of applications and technical stuff ) has been limited and not available in any useable form on the Internet.

The tutor in www.MSN.com for example is pitiful, Netscape doesn't have a tutor and it's help is only sort of helpful. You can only understand most instruction if you already know what you are doing. Is this the best you can do ?

No single set or sets of instruction can or will do to produce basic computer literacy because of rapid change. In reading you are better off if you know phonics, the building blocks of turning sounds into codes. Since my computer can pronounce written words don't tell me that English is not phonic, there are 45 phonemes not 24 letters. Sure you can read without knowing you know sound codes or learning to pronounce each word as it comes along but why do it the hard way as I do. Users of the Internet HAVE TO learn to learn the basic phonemes that make the systems work. This is the basis of Internet 101, we help learn the basics then for 1000 different applications people have to figure some it out for themselves, with support and advice. It's not real hard stuff, but for you to set up ftp or chat, or i-phone, CuSeeMe, games, VDO, Netscape options helpers and plug ins, cold fusion, x-files, net meeting, and on and on and on - you have to learn by doing and only when you need it or want it. It's really not hard with a little help from your friends. Any program that gives me grief, I often give up on and look for one that doesn't make it hard. IBM produces 1000 pages of manuals, I just say NO ! If you can't make the damn thing work, forget it, someone else will produce a more friendly product. It's been hard in hypertext editors, but now with WebEdit Pro, and Hot Dog I'm functional. When all else fails read the instructions. Help functions (F2) sometimes are helpful, not often. Someone needs to work on general help such as; cut and paste, file management, drag and drop, register, etc.

The Basic stuff that most programs using C+++ and OLE ( object files ) use but only information when you need it, not three weeks of lectures, or 1000 pages of manuals, lost on my shelf somewhere.

The only way is to plug ahead. BUT that's not the American consumer way ! People say they can't set the time on their VCR's. Well I don't think there is an INTERNET for DUMMIES. Oh maybe services like AOL, but how dumb can they be ?

The books by-the- way are useless, because they are out of date before they hit the presses and have something to sell as do the magazines, who don't bite the hands that feed them. Also useless are almost all of the Internet classes, which give you a lot of details about useless stuff you don't need to know. With increasing information over- load you have to make important choices about what you choice to learn. We do it right on the SYNERGY network.

Kids have use a lot of cleverness to get multi-media games to work, old cyberdogs can learn new tricks. IT'S NOT HARD. Really it's not hard and getting easier every day. Learning is part of the fun if not the whole point.

The Internet is not a passive entertainment and MASS media but a community of learners and group dynamics involving SYNERGY.

The Internet is and can be the greatest learning tool since the printing press. To take advantage of printing people had to learn to read. At the time 90% plus could not read.

They thought reading was hard.

They were illiterate. Being reading or computer illiterate is no joke. It excludes you from the future. Almost 50 % of Americans are functionally illiterate in reading and 90 % computer illiterate. It won't do.

I visited the Queen, safely deposited in concrete, in Long Beach Harbor. One point from the tour sticks in my mind.

The Ship was designed toward the end of the 19th Century. Finance and construction delays then World War I prevented construction. I don't remember but I think it was the last part of the 1920's or early in the 1930's before she was finished and set sail. It was close to half a century between conception and delivery. Yet, the old gal did good service in World War II and managed to hold her own on the Atlantic trade, with a substantial government subsidy.

Between the design of the Queen and it's launch, airplanes were invented, the telephone and radio became consumer goods, automobiles replaced horses, and Urban populations overwhelmed rural precepts. I think they only changed, the Queen, from coal to oil fired boilers and the ship has a 19th century feel to it's decor and the class structure of the lounges, salons and cabins.

There were facilities for steerage passengers, carefully walled off from the middle class, which was also excluded from the private domains of the upper class areas.

A lot of people still are on the old queen on the Internet. Compu-serve has a mosaic, AOL still has browser problems. ( I am told they spent 25 million on the dog they keep trying in endless versions that never did work, now they are using explorer and Netscape ).

The use of on-line services of this kind is completely obsolete. I'm told 6,000 people leave AOL very day as it dawns on them that a ATT, MCI, MSN, NetCom, Spry, ( where is WOW ? ) local on-ramps ( pipeline, and 2500 others ) provide unlimited service ( $20.00 ) with a direct dial up built into windows 95, rather than the trash provided by even the big time service companies. I throw away the dial ups that come with ATT, MCI, and just do a dial up in windows 95. Only 20 % of existing systems have converted to windows 95 from 3.11 and many people didn't like it. If you are going to do Internet I don't think you have a choice.

The browser has a lot more stuff then any on-line services and fairly easy to find. MSN and explorer give away the Wall Street http://www.wiredbrain.net/documents/ JOURNAL, the New York Times, the Boston Globe and the LA Times are on POINTCAST, it's all there..Chat, FtP, newsgroups, mail, and coming together in a user friendly manner. It does require some assembling and batteries and all the parts are not included. Internet 101 is the instruction kit for the Internet.

I have gone through many stages and design shifts in the last few years. Now comes the process of launching the Internet as a consumer product.

The major money is in Intra-nets, office application that provide Wide Area Networks and resources.

The network itself was designed in the 1960's to help military and scientific efforts. Newsgroups now wildly il-relevant were at first notice boards for technical information. With Eudora, ( e- mail ), became list servers, and the first popular search engines, gophers were tied to more useable FTP ( file transfers ) without knowing UNIX codes. Freenets were established and local BBS, began to provide interconnections and some form of Internet access. Compuserve became somewhat more user friendly, and began to earn money about the time the Reader Digest gave up on it, and America on Line entered with a dynamic interface from the old text only formats.

The use of mosaic lasted only about a year, and then Netscape produced a free and functional product, early in 1995, with Local Service Providers popping up madly using win- sock ( Windows socket - sets up the communications ports ) connections of mixed quality.

The beta of Windows 95 included a 32 bit direct connection ( ports built in ) that was a clear improvement over 3.11 and external Winsocks. Last summer Windows finally arrived free of disk destroying bugs.

The OLD rule of thumb is that knowledge of computer applications declines 20 % a year. If out of touch for five years you knew nothing ! I have had that experience more than once. NOW we are into dog years, so at least 10 % a quarter changes, in two years and 1/4, it's all changed, so you keep up or know nothing. Last year we would be discussing gophers, e-mail, mail lists, newsgroups, and maybe Mosaic with slip connections and some classes still are still a year behind. Next year we will be into a lot of 3-d and Virtual reality video, high speed streamed graphics and sound, web-TV, cable modem ( or digital connection to replace the analog )s, speeds 100 times "Citius, Altius, Fortius

" - Latin meaning "Swifter, Higher, Stronger"

THE MOST

INTERACTIVE SITE ON THE INTERNET ?

YES WE ARE !

First save the htp document you want to work on, view, source in your browser, then save as in file roadmap.htm

for example. Netscape, View option on the tool bar, then Source - If the options are set right it will open in note pad - no word wrap .

Then I can save it to DESKTOP ( file: save as give it it's name ) or any location.
It is better to have an editor like webedit that has a ftp attached because sometimes note pad removes all the spaces and makes a mess - don't know why. Now I save save as roadmap.htm in plain text format.

( press space bar )
Now I am fixing and adding this text in Notepad. Save again - now I can drag and drop it from windows explorer, file manager or from DESKTOP into Netscape made 4" x 4" on the desktop only where it says CURRENT DIRECTORY IS / ftp://pflaump:synergy@ftp.wiredbrain.net /public_html

or go up directory to anywhere I want to put it. HERE IT IS ! This open system means we have more options, more choice, and leave the driving to you. ( you are free to disagree but I want to see a more open site and do it, to believe it )

A very good site is virtualschool

Internet competency pretest from virtual schools .

http://www.worldvillage.com/index.html

worldvillage requires a lot of work, on our site you are there with forum, chat, ftp etc. but the goals are the same..

The reason we are the most interactive is because of SYNERGY. People like Donna. We don't control how you use the site but help you get messages, do home pages, Net Meetings, FTP, IRC, on INTERNET 101

you can have your own group activities, and change with the times, etc, etc. rather than Dr. Moose in control of your activities within one system such as teaching on line at

a fixed system.

( press space bar ) I know there are some of the same information is in several places . With information overload, only repeats get through..

The REAL difference is CONTROL

Traditional education demands control. In most schools the instructor thinks "I am the teacher, you are a STUDENT, I know the subject and you will learn what I think you need to know "- but I don't believe that ! I am also the STUDENT, you are the teachers... I help with an environment of learning - not any pre-set, pre-determined curriculum.. ODD isn't it - It's the new management style.
It's hard to let go of illusions ! Of assumptions about thinking and doing ! Think again ! AND watch the results !

In the national conventions we see a remanent of past times, Don Quixote de la Mancha making speeches and giving interviews about the illusionary cult of lower taxes,( without touching Social Security, DOD, and Medicare ) with the Sancho Pansa's of PBS, shaking their heads in the broadcast booth.
UNREAL !

The first wave ( according to Toffler ) was feudal agriculture, the second industrial nation states, the third wave

is international, global, planetary, or even galactic communications.

The real global issues; the concerns of the Earth Summit at Rio de Janeiro:

environment, population, production and distribution of wealth, a global society with a new world view, smart enough, fast enough, wise enough, kind enough, to prosper; are not discussed at political conventions.

Real social, political and military power is in communications technology. Small, fast, smart flexible groups creating new wealth and power. Internationalism is reflected in the 30 or so country codes that receive the SYNERGY http://www.wiredbrain.net/documents/ JOURNALs.

The modern age was a conscious rasing experience. Local provincialism, superstitions, and very limited world views gave way to discovery and adventure. Our view of ourselves and our world changed in fundamental ways. If the first wave was feudal, the second nation states, the third wave is international, global, planetary, or even galactic. Our world views must change just as they did in the first renascence.

The SYNERGY http://www.wiredbrain.net/documents/ JOURNAL does narrow casting and maybe more important than broadcasting.

New ideas don't happen all at once, it takes time, and since everyone is different and comes here from a different place this is an internal dialog - the inter-writing - and takes a little getting used to.. for some not too long and for others much slower - but believe the old man, it's worth it.

You can find almost anything anywhere and using Net Meeting ( also to be packaged ) work on it with any file anywhere, internet s and Intra nets.

POINTCAST will do the up dates and provide information flow, MS office document, data, graphic and sound and video production, AltaVista file management on and off site, and net meeting, conference and long distance communications. Local Service providers will have software connect with I-phones and made local and 800 calls. This by passes the long distance companies who may fight or join the scramble. You use conference software to connect to a server in Hong Kong and it makes a regular local call for you. We are very close.

RE: What business are you in ?

The neurological biochemical

model of the nervous system, information and response has evolved to foster effective and dynamic interaction within a changing environment, to eat and not be eaten. To see what you need to see, to hear what you need to hear, to feel what you need to feel and react quickly.

The Internet mass communications business is just the same.

They are the electrical and chemical transmitters for global business and social interactions. How can we help social systems be more effective at doing what they do and do what they have never even dreamed of doing. It's a new art form, a now life form.

SYNERGY is where everyone ( well almost everyone wins ). Ruth Benedict

's concept was of societies that made participation worth while for most people, rather than the " powers to be" hedging it all and setting the rules to benefit themselves. Sharing, empathy, honest, liberty, equality

, in the division of the spoils are functional attitudes vs. greed, uncaring, anti-social, individualist, slavery, domination etc.

The business you are in is SYNERGY PROGRAM

, working with others to get the job done, the computer/telecommunications/Internet business is going to make that faster and let you do new things not done before. "< Citius, Altius, Fortius >

The TOUR

gives an idea of the methods we want to use in building the VIRTUAL CLASSROOM.

The system could be rented as the training facilities listed below ( hocf.htm

is a list of corporate universities ) as well as to schools, colleges, and Universities around the world. It is unreasonable to expect every institution to build it's own electric classroom when rented space can be more up-to-date and have the interactive features needed.

To use a classroom on the Global Village School house is as easy as getting a site. RE: A proposal: A classroom on the Internet

RE: Active vs. passive learning:

I have in http://www.wiredbrain.net/ dozens of papers about active and cooperative learning.

The difference can be seen in our NEW Internet 101 class ( http://www.wiredbrain.net/internet101/internet10 1/htm )

I shouldn't, and can't tell you about it, but you HAVE to do "IT" for yourself. TAKE INITIATIVE ! "IT" is not one set of activities predetermined in my head, or a text book BUT what-ever IT is for you: content, methods, attitudes, desire, interest, information, knowledge, understanding, skills, practice, research methods, finding out, asking questions, getting information, DOING SoMETHING - such as leaving a message for me on the message board ( FTP file ), installing a program, MS NET MEETINGS, follow directions, ( hit the HELP button ) asking questions, giving and getting help or just figuring IT out for yourself.

THIS is IT, the new paradigm, the media is the message, the methods are the contents. Think about the institutional implications of IT !!!

The structure of knowledge has changed but the knowledge transfer business ( schools, colleges, industrial training ) has not.

The business is based on books, libraries, degrees, the storage and transfer of information by gate keepers.

( press space bar )

URL: http://www.wiredbrain.net/tour.htm TITLE: GVS-IC

The Global Village Schools - an interactive classroom

GOALS: Development of a model prototype Internet classroom that will:

1.) Test teaching learning methods for different types of content and methods over the Internet and Intranets.

2.) Be a test bed of Research and development of interactive software using current state of the art systems and possible new developments as they come along.

LOGIC:
Rational, there is no one right way.

The concept of remote education and training is changing too quickly for most traditional technology transfer methods.

There is a clear and present need for experimental prototypes available to institutions and individuals to use, on which to test their specific application and gain the valuable experience they need before they plan and install their own systems or subsystems. On a continuous basis, there is an intense need to beta test a whole range of alternatives, encourage others to try them under different circumstances, such as bands capacities, equipment configurations and protocols .

There is no program plan only a process. For some idea of the commercial content look at our Best List.

VISION: unlimited .... what we can imagine today is all ready being done - we will be doing next year what we can not even imagine today. I could not have last year even thought of what is possible now and that will be just as true for this time next year !

The explanation for the "Bermuda triangle" phenomena is that there is nothing to explain.

There is no marvel because there is no statistical difference.

The explanation to the RASH of Black Church fires may be the same. No more boats or planes ( given the traffic ) disappear in the Bermuda triangle than anywhere else and the number of wooden church fires has not increased. In is all in the perspective.

The goal of political reform should be to take away the profit motive in our election process.

The attempts to control money by regulation is hopeless because if individuals have personal power, the market will find a way around any rules. If we had disciplined national parties, individual candidates and office holders would not have the power to shake down organizations for money.

There is synergy between money and politics, and we end up with the best government money can buy.

RE:

The horn in the fire

http://quantumweb.com/robin/disco.html /documents/

An anthropologist at the University told me that Laps when they hunt ( reindeer ) have lots of information and theories about the habits of their prey. Sometimes because of changes in climate the patterns of reindeer migration change. After trying what they know, after using magic, and the Laps are still hungry, they call in the wise man, consultant. the shaman throws a reindeer antler into the fire. He examines the patterns made by the fire on the bone and that becomes their map for the hunting.

THE STYLES - TEMPERAMENT - GAME Come on play the game: I will help you set up files for YOUR group. First Take the Sorter
http://www. gse.rmit.edu.au/~rsedc/keirsey.html

Or better yet: http://sunsite.unc.edu /jembin/mb.pl

is the inventory site: In addition to evaluating your temperament type, it provides a description of the type as well as a list of the famous and infamous that share the type. Reading level is high and we've had only limited success using it with students, but works really well for adults.

RE: A proposal for the classroom of the future:

For a tour of the future of teaching on the Internet look at our new TOUR GUIDE

( press space bar )

I want to find about $100,000 to build a prototype Internet classroom. We will take a tour of what that classroom may look like but first the ADMINistrative idea. When the technology is changing as fast as the Internet ( I don't believe any technology, even Military has moved so fast - but in both cases the motivation is the same kill or be killed, survival depends on your tools and organization ) it is impossible for me to write a detailed plan, submit it through the grants cycle and then if I get funded in a year, then do what I had suggested a year ago. So we need a contract with NSF, PBS, Digital ( AltaVista ), Microsoft, IBM. Motorola, Intel, Carnegie Endowment for the Advancement of Teaching or other public or private fund to support us.

The contract forms a management board, decisions are made and money is spent. Someone out there knows how to do this.

The board controls the expenditures. We may cost more or less then any plan could predict.

The important point of not getting kick backs, paying bribes, stealing, and being effective is more likely than under the standard grant conditions.

RE: PUBLIUS and THE 4th of JULY

http://www.eff.org/pub/Legislation/Freedom_Shrine/feder alist.papers

Ambition must be made to counteract ambition.

The interest of the man must be connected with the constitutional rights of the place. It may be a reflection on human nature, that such devices should be necessary to control the abuses of government. But what is government itself, but the greatest of all reflections on human nature? If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.

no universal truths. Tao De Ching - Lao Tze

Such small voices, but creation does not depend on their understanding the universe, that does not care much about what we think.

The truths. like Atoms, exist even if there was no planet earth, the issue is how to put ourselves in a proper relationship with the universal truth that do exists. It represents the evolution -- and resolution -- of the terrors and dilemmas of Step penwolf, Demian, and Siddhartha.

hermetic her·met·ic (h…r-mµt“¹k) also her·met·i·cal (-¹-k…l)

adj. 1. Tightly sealed so that air cannot enter or escape : airtight. 2. Resistant to or proof against outside influences.

her·met“i·cal·ly adverb
[ An airtight seal is called a hermetic seal by a roundabout chain of circumstances. Hermetic is an adjective derived from the name Hermes Trismegistus, the Greek name for the Egyptian god Thoth, who was regarded as the originator of the science of alchemy.

The adjective hermetic , beginning in the 17th cent., meant "pertaining to alchemy" and the occult sciences in general. Alchemy, and later chemistry, was itself variously known as the hermetic art, philosophy, or science. A hermetic seal was a kind of seal used by alchemists that involved melting closed an opening in a glass vessel. Since the resulting seal was airtight, any airtight seal has come to be called hermetic.

<BR><B><h4> The Sign of the Mason's

The American system is based on the 18th century ideology of the Blue Lodge ( a form of the Scottish Rites ) of the Free and Associated Masons.

The Lodge masters; Franklin and Otis, the founders, George Washington, Jefferson, Madison and Hamilton, both Adams, Jay and all the other signers of the Declaration of Independence, understood obedience and freedom from the Hermetic philosophy of their lodges .

Without understanding how the Mason's organized and conducted the rebellion, the events will not make sense and you might miss the whole point of the modern world.

The ideal is powerful as the shot heard around the world. People can manage their own affairs and behave reasonably in a civil society without Kings, Priests, and official dogmas.
