from last week. What we do here is explore, using interaction
and cooperation.
They open
from almost everywhere. See MSN
search
Try Digital's search
engine: Try key words:
pflaump, synergy,
interactive ! WOW !!
Go to list.htm a directory of
this site made by Digital.
Sometimes works better
than //metro.
The URL is 204.250.87.44 (Metro) and 204.250.87.46
for (emporium). When you enter there is the index page.
which contains this page first.htm, the News page, the Starrt page
(above) open-me, and synergy.
There are also the document files; the main files is /document
and under synergy documents several files /documents/pathos/
,
(feelings and psychology, mind body materials); Ethos
(education, morals, values and being a person with character -
the heart of education ) and LOGOS
( the rational and policy papers about organizations, management,
government, theories of collective behavior)
Note: IF these links don't work go back to / ( Index
) and do it by hand - open /document or /synergy and it works.
I don't know why sometines the links work and sometimes they
don't.
Note: Case Sensitive
Hyperlinks are case sensitive.
The file manager in Windows
doesn't show upper case, so when I made ethos, http://www.wiredbrain.net/documents/pathos/,
LOGOS, NEW, and PAGES some of the links don't work because of
case. I am replacing and correcting as I find the problem.
Another case of live and learn.
The lesson is to use only lower
case in file structure. Now since the search engines like Digital
have listing of the locations, I can't just change file names
without messing up these references.
The lesson is to be careful
with your file structure on the WEB because you are going to be
stuck with it. I changed pflaump to synergy
and it still haunts me.
( Unstable technology - see below ). A general tip on the web
- try several times.
The URL's have to be found and placed in
the server. Sometimes the server need to do this more then once.
If you don't get a fairly fast - found - waiting but it keeps
looking - don't wait try again. I use more than one browser page
at a time ( on Windows 95 ) and flip back and fourth if it's slow.
One reason I don't have an Index.htm page is to give you practice
in open files and how they work.
The XWIN system add-on speeds up
the browser. Look at http://www.cs.umn.edu/~echi/hotlist/w95.html
I've looked at the PAGES with a freenet http (text only),
AoL, Compuserve, Prodigy, MS Internet Explorer, Netscape, Hot
Java, and they all are different. What I see and experience is
not the same as what you see and experience. I depend on your
feedback.
In the files you will find sample PAGES,
along with icons, and
other materials for making your own home PAGES. A lot more
information
is on the week before first's page now news.htm
in the htm files.
This is a place to visit more than once and spend enough time
to discover our meaning. It is not completely user friendly -
we are working on it. Have a nice visit and let me know what you
think ?

Volant has a little directory structure where you can list by
subject your
various PAGES. This is helpful but really only gets you people
that are
already on the Volant site.
The better option is to go someplace like SUBMIT-IT which will
help you
register you page with the major search engines.

Greetings. This note describes an array of WWW-based resources of
interest to
higher education.
This database contains short informational files about people
worldwide
with expertise in areas of higher education.
The files include
linked and
up-to-date email addresses, to facilitate communication. Where
applicable,
entries include WWW URLs, so home PAGES may be accessed.
The
purpose of the
database is to facilitate contact between people concerned with
change in
higher education.
It is possible, using the URL listed above, to register in the
database as
well as access it. You can also complete the template below. Be
very sure to
send it to . This probably means you
must "forward"
it to that address, and not "reply" to this message. If you
"reply" your
template will probably go to the STLHE-L list.
There are many thousands of Internet resources of interest to
educators.
Finding them can be somewhat difficult as the databases
describing them are
located in different places and require different access
procedures. This page
provides a uniform interface to several important databases. By
completing a
very simple form, the visitor can learn about resources that may
be useful,
and receive access instructions. This page is intended to help
beginning and
intermediate Internet users locate resources.
Continuous Quality Improvement is a relatively new concept in
the
educational environment. It refers, loosely speaking, to an
attempt to define
progress and measure results over time, making small adjustments
in processes.
HEPROC is home to an extensive and valuable archive of CQI
articles which have
emerged from the AAHE's CQI initiative. People curious about CQI,
and about
change in higher education, will find this archive informative
and useful.
The
archive is searchable and browseable.

CENTRAL THEME in everything we are about...
The Exercise of Selves:
Form groups of even numbers, four, six, maybe eight people.
Stand in a circle and hold hands. Count off, one, two,
three....the
odd numbers turn around, so the circle is made up of people
facing
in next to one facing out.
In a darkened room, cleared of furniture, place various
children
toys on the floor (cars, dolls, stuffed animals).
The goal of
the game is the group with the most toys wins.
They can not
release
their hands.
The group must move together, some forward and some
backward, as quickly as possible and bend and pick up the toys.
They can stuff the toys into pockets or shirts without letting
go of each other.
The group represents the many "selves", parts of
our mind that become conscious under different conditions.
The
people take on different functions and communicate to other
people.
The darkened room is our local "reality" and the toys
our present needs, wants, desires and hopes.
The
"personality"
struggles with itself and the environment to gain security,
support
and acceptance, and various things that are labeled as
"valuable".
It is very difficult, frustration is normal, anger is
possible,
withdrawal and the desire to escape this "silly game"
not unusual or irrational.
After the first round and some group "wins", the
each groups form into a line all facing the same way. Rather than
enclosed the group becomes open.
The lights are turned on.
The
person at the head of the line becomes "commander".
The toys are redistributed and the game begins again. This times
it is easier, faster, and more orderly.
The "selves"
of the group work more smoothly as a single unit.
The lesson is that we as "individuals" have many
"selves", only one or two are conscious at any one
time.
There are seven areas of the brain and seven clusters of selves.
*In order to make these easier to remember they have been color
coded since the 13th century.
BLUE:
The background - the sea -
The Brainstem (midbrain,
pons, medulla and spinal cord)
The reptilian brain - the first
level of awareness and alert to basic survival functions.
The
Adam of our being, the mother god, the wet world before birth
when "mother and I are one." Contact with this
"self"
can be made with certain sounds and dream /images; clearly
non-verbal
understanding where no words or labels exist. Fakers
(self-hypnosis)
gain control of basic body functions so they can stand on one
finger, or experience no pain walking on coals
.
YELLOW:
The vital senses,
The Cerebellum: motion, actions
and reactions.
The core of carnal "soul" desires for
balance and motion. Basic animal awareness, perception and
reactions.
Contact can be made with this part of "selves" via
dance
and ceremony, the ancient mass (eating of the flesh of g-d)
starts
with the blue welcome, sense of place, here and now, then the
chant and motion introduce the senses to themselves.
The monk
in deep meditation of the physical death of Christ, sometimes
becomes in direct contact with the "senses" of g-d
beyond.
Monks gain control of passions.
RED:
The Limbic System, (Fornix, hypothalamus, pituitary,
right hippocampus and amygdala ) the mammalian brain -
fight/flight
passions, fear, anger, sex drive - eating, drinking, sleeping,
walking, balance, body temperature, via electrical and chemical
messages. This maybe called the ID or center of
"feeling"
. Contact can be made with these "selves" in dreams,
arts, psychodrama, sex and love, so we become conscious of body
reactions. Yoga and Zen are traditional ways to gain control of
"body thought".
WHITE:
The Cerebrum - right and left, organization, memory,
communications, understanding, appreciation, creation, the core
of being human.
The fourth way - body control of fakers, control
of feeling of monks, the control of thought by hatha yoga, the
control of AIMS - in the world but not of it - the power to
achieve.
GREEN:
The Cortex - four lobes -
The frontal in planning,
decision
making; the parietal the senses and information processing,
occipital
lobe or visual cortex, and temporal lobe putting pictures
together,
hearing and memory filters. Green is the wizard of OZ (emerald
city), the sense of wonder and mystery. Green "happens"
when the other "selves" are understood and brought into
free play - instantaneous and joyful, can't dance and judge at
the same time, the dancer and the dance become one.
All the energy wasted in internal and external disagreement
is focused on playing the piano, eating, having sex, running a
corporation, talking to your children, playing tennis, sailing,
singing with freedom and joy. (For it's own internal value and
fun, the-joy-of-life, joi de vive, animal passions, the life
force)
BLACK: A state of wonder - the cortex becomes aware of the
body- brain being beyond "self" and of death.
The
origin
of the "spirit" self and intuition. Passing beyond the
fear of death and finding friends where there were demons. BOO
-
CLEAR:
beyond body-brain as a meaningful relationship with
atoms of our Adam, the star stuff of which we are made - dust,
plant and algae, animal and spirit. Beyond human language - great
art is NOT self expression of the 1000 fools but a meaningful
relationship with voices of the universal spirits, the muse may
speak softly in your ear, if you are quiet and listen.
The 1000
fools have to stop their unseasoned silly chatter. (We talk to
ourselves at 350 words a minute almost all the time - mostly a
collect of truth, trash, panic, hopes, false expectations, worse
than the worse soap opera. ) cool it.
I am working on a "styles Section" on
/.
I will post letters to the web PAGES and try to make this as
interactive
as possible, given the current technology. Open first.htm and
there will be further instructions. What maybe be possible is
to tie "styles" to brain functions - the complex brain
see "
The Amazing Brain" by Robert Ornstein and Richard
Thompson and new research on biochemical functions may support
ancient wisdom about the human animal:
1:)
The image (the map) the model of the world we live in
only partly reflects "reality" - I hope we all know
that - but is deeply effected by emotional attitudes, needs,
wants,
desires, diet, advertising, social pressures, current and quickly
changing "selves". We are not one stable
"self"
but in a process of many selves. Doing panel studies where you
ask people the same questions in different forms over time, shows
we generate answers after hearing the question. We don't have
fixed "attitudes" or opinions but a mixture, contain
many elements which change moment to moment.
2.) Life depends on the 95% of activity that is not conscious
- and the body-mind is really our home - "the dream
time".
The body-mind (mother god) is the source of tribal law,
ceremonies,
religions that defines us within a culture. We are our culture
and "style" to the needs of that culture within out
biological capacities. To know "styles" we have to know
the "dreamtime", the profound symbols that underlie
all our behavior. It is not what people say but what they feel
and do that counts. Verbal behavior is mostly excuses and lies.
(Lies to one self since we do not know who we are!)
3.) Beyond self we find self - beyond the roles, lies, needs,
desires, hopes, cares - goals, a "still small self",
in a meaningful relationship with universals.
The world exists
outside but we have to observe in silence of our chatter, our
conscious brain noise. To pay attention we have to focus beyond
the illusion that we think is "real" to a more profound
"reality", that is what used to be called an education.
Teachers knew the "real" and could be a
"guide"
from the shadows of illusion and false ideas to the good, the
true and the beautiful. This set standards for "being
civilized"
an "educated person", does anyone remember.
4.) If you think about this it will made you uncomfortable.
You do not know who you are ! You are in a trance, walking in
your sleep ! You are not really aware of the universe around you
! You do not know why you are here, the purpose of your life !
You are controlled by internal and external forces you do not
understand (little mind control robots planted deep inside) !
No wonder such ideas are like the little boy who said "
The
emperor has no clothes" - It didn't make him popular or win
any elections.
The Wizard of OZ does not like to be exposed and a
trick.
