SYNERGY-NET on http://www.wiredbrain.net/ RE: The short knight of TV conventions; In the national conventions we see a remanent of past times, Don Quixote de la Mancha making speeches and giving interviews about the illusionary cult of lower taxes,( without touching Social Security, DOD, and Medicare ) with the Sancho Pansa's of PBS, shaking their heads in the broadcast booth. UNREAL ! The first wave ( according to Toffler ) was feudal agriculture, the second industrial nation states, the third wave is international, global, planetary, or even galactic communications. The real global issues; the concerns of the Earth Summit at Rio de Janeiro: environment, population, production and distribution of wealth, a global society with a new world view, smart enough, fast enough, wise enough, kind enough, to prosper; are not discussed at political conventions. The current social political structure of the modern world, first wave to second, was largely created by the amour piercing cross and long bows. Feudal estates depended on the military power of castles and knights. When the French knights fell to the long bows of the English at Agincourd ( 1415 ) and castles walls could be pierced by canon, feudal regionalism declined and nationalism, mass armies, and federal system expanded their power. The new nations depended on some level rational thought, industrialism, science and the consent, if not active participation, of the governed. We have lived since in nation states, with strong central governments, factories, cities, taxes, regulation, strong leaders and parliaments, universities, stock exchanges, and other bureaucracies that could support mass production armies and territorial empires. Until 1972, American political conventions depended on the mass production of votes by political machines. Regional power brokers, mayors and governors, came together to pick a national ticket. Television was the amour piercing weapon of traditional political power. Now the convention is only an event made for TV. At the same time the walls between nation states are being blown down, torn down like the Berlin wall, pierced by the canons of world markets, telecommunications and new age politics. Therefore both the process and the content seems old and largely irrelevant. We are now using the new amour piercing weapons. Real social, political and military power is in communications technology. Small, fast, smart flexible groups creating new wealth and power. Internationalism is reflected in the 30 or so country codes that receive the Synergy Journals. The modern age was a conscious rasing experience. Local provincialism, superstitions, and very limited world views gave way to discovery and adventure. Our view of ourselves and our world changed in fundamental ways. If the first wave was feudal, the second nation states, the third wave is international, global, planetary, or even galactic. Our world views must change just as they did in the first renascence. So the old KNIGHT's still take the field. The romantic literature of knights and armor became popular well after the reality had long gone. In the national conventions we see a remanent of past times, like Don Quixote de la Mancha and his Sancho Pansa, shaking his head in the broadcast booth. The Synergy Journal does narrow casting and maybe more important. Copies of the SYNERGY JOURNAL sent by request: pflaump@cfl.rr.com SYNERGY-NET on http://www.wiredbrain.net/ Peter E.
